ABOUT

J. Goodison Company, Inc.

OSBDA is proud to showcase the success of one of our own customers, J. Goodison Company,

J. Goodison Company was founded in 1999 and incorporated in 2001. It is a veteran-owned small business that has grown from its humble beginnings as a two man operation to an organization that supports 27 full time employees and an additional 25-50 skilled labor and trade subcontractors. J. Goodison successfully transitioned from a marine services labor painting company to a full range ship repair organization

J. Goodison Company currently performs 40-50 major repair jobs per year all over the eastern seaboard, from Maine to Florida. In addition, he has locations in Texas, Michigan, and Minnesota. The company provides a full range of services that include: Dry-dock Repairs, Dockside Repairs, Welding and Fitting, UHP Blasting and Painting, Mechanical Repairs, Electrical/Electronic Repairs, as well as 24/7 Emergency Vessel Support.

The Company’s list of clients include but is not limited to government clients such as the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Navy, NOAA and the U.S. Parks Department.  Our commercial clients include Senesco Marine, Boston Towing & Transportation, and Electric Boat to name a few.  J Goodison Company holds a GSA contract and 9 Multi-Year IDIQ (Indefinitely Delivery Indefinitely Quantity) contracts with the Coast Guard.

In 2010, Jack Goodison, CEO of the J. Goodison Company, was named 2010 Rhode Island Small Business Person of the Year.  Also that year the company purchased and opened a new 7,000 sf former jet engine testing facility at the Quonset Point Industrial Park making use of a SBA 504 loan.  Ocean State Business Development Authority and Coastway Community Bank financed the deal at the time.  This facility severed as the company’s headquarters while all operations were run out of the Providence facility.  In 2014, the Providence location was consolidated and all the satellite functions were moved to the Quonset Facility.

The growth of the organization has been guided by its principles which are clearly stated in its mission and vision statements.  Our vision is to be a premier marine services organization that continuously strides to be its best and leverages its resources to provide our clients a standard of excellence second to none.  And our purpose is to deliver excellent services and solutions to our clients in cost effective, innovative, and efficient ways.  J. Goodison Company is committed to the safety, dignity, respect, and betterment of our employees, clients, communities, and the environment at large.

For the last 16 years J. Goodison Company has been growing and developing.  However, up to this point, the company’s capacity to grow was limited by the fact all the drydock work was subcontracted out to other shipyards.  We expect to overcome that hurdle in 2016 when we plan to open our own shipyard at our new waterfront facility.  The new facility is centrally located between Maine and New York and it will be ideally set up to service a wide range of commercial and government vessels in the New England and New York markets.  Vessels that include U.S. Coast guard Cutters and Icebreaks, NOAA Ships, commercial and military tug boats, barges, ferries and diner cruise boats, as well as commercial fishing boats.

The new shipyard facility will create demand for an additional 30-50 good paying blue collar skilled jobs.  Jobs that include welders, machinists, painters, UHP operators, electricians, fabricators, and general laborers.  It will have spillover benefits to the surrounding community in the form of added demand for services, materials, and supplies.  It will create added synergies to the areas’ long history of boat building and shipyard repair heritage.  Overall, we expect the new Goodison Shipyard to bring great benefits to all the stakeholders and will be tremendous asset to the Quonset Park, the community and the state of Rhode Island.
